Edesigns Activewear Founder Erin Brayton

Hi, I’m Erin!
I created Edesigns Activewear as a place for performers to find garments that add magic to their acts, reliability to their training sessions,
and comfort and style to their time outside the gym. You work hard, and I believe your clothing should too.
I created Edesigns Activewear Sewing Patterns so my fellow sewists can build their confidence in sewing with spandex, and try their hand at making their own costumes, based on my designs.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Apparel and Textile Design, and have been designing and creating pieces for going on two decades, spanning across categories as diverse as wedding dresses and baby clothing, before finally coming to my true love in activewear.

As well as being a designer and garment maker, I’m also an aerialist myself.

I began creating garments for myself first.
As a beginning aerialist, I was unable to find pieces that protected my armpits, knees and waist without ripping, tangling in the apparatus, or making me overheat. Many commercially available leotards are made to fit teenaged dancers, and simply weren’t long enough for an adult woman with a longer than average torso.  They certainly weren’t designed for the chafing, twisting and pulling I was putting them through! I had spent quite a bit of my childhood in leotards for dance and gymnastics, and I wasn’t willing to settle for pinching elastic and wedgies again.

My designs are based in my hard-won knowledge of the burns and bruises that are particular to the world of circus, and the first hand experience of which garments will and won’t stand up to the rigors of training and performing.
It is my goal to make costuming so comfortable and reliable that you will be able to forget you’re wearing it.

My pieces are entirely custom, beginning from my self designed and drafted patterns, modified for your personal measurements, and created from prints and colors we select to capture the perfect look and mood for your garment.
My PDF patterns are created from pieces I have designed, sewn and worn in the air myself!

I believe that circus is for everyone, and that inclusivity is one of the most valuable traits the circus community possesses.
I strive to create costuming that makes hearts sing for people of all sizes, genders, races and sexualities.
